Language as Rhythm

A majority of the drumming/percussion interventions we see and use in the hospice and medical settings are actively drumming/tapping/shaking along to live or recorded music. In this video, MT-BC Cory Woodrow highlights the innate rhythms in human speech, and teaches you how to take the profound things your clients say and turn them into rhythms.

Be creative with this intervention idea! Use client rhythms to create original music, engage in improvisation together, and more. The possibilities are endless.

Self Care Tip

As music therapists, we are often encouraged to create or promote the creation of positive affirmations for our clients, but rarely do we practice them with ourselves. At the end of this video, Cory outlines several different ways to practice positive affirmations. Use these instructions to provide structure for your clients AND yourself.
